What if everyone in the community read the same book at the same time, and came together to talk about it? LAKE TRAVIS READS is a “One Book, One Community” program jointly sponsored by the Friends of the Bee Cave, Lake Travis and Spicewood Libraries. Check out the five possible books and vote online for one you’d like to read at www.laketravisreads.org, or fill out a ballot at LT High School library, Barnes & Noble in the Galleria, Starbucks, or any of the three libraries. Come to the Kick-Off event on Thursday, May 15th at 6:30 pm in the Galleria Amphitheater to learn which book the community has chosen to read! Special events tied to the book will take place this Fall.
STORYTIME NEWS: We’ve listened to your suggestions and requests, and we’ve added more sessions of storytime on Thursdays and Fridays at 11:15 am! Once storytime has begun, the doors will close, so please be on time. If you’re running late, please enjoy books and coloring in the library until the second session is ready to start. We appreciate your cooperation as we adapt to our growing population of future readers and their grown-ups!
PERCY JACKSON BOOK RELEASE PARTY—co-sponsored by Barnes & Noble. Come to the “Greek Hero Training Camp” in the Galleria Amphitheater on Saturday, May 10, 11 am to 2 pm for activities, games, costume contest and more! Check the flyer for more information.
The Bee Cave Book Club will meet on May 12th to discuss Peace Like A River, by Leif Enger, and on June 9th to discuss The Canon: A Whirligig Tour of the Beautiful Basics of Science, by Natalie Angier. For more information, please call Angela at (512) 767-6625 or email apalmer@beecavetexas.gov
NEW DATABASE AVAILABLE: Ancestry Library Edition is now available, from inside the library only. Read more about this amazing genealogy research tool, or come to the library and try it out for yourself!
NEW FOR KIDS: Check out TumbleBooks, a collection of animated, talking picture books, puzzles and games! TumbleBooks are created from existing picture books which have been licensed from children's book publishers and converted to the TumbleBook format. If you are unable to view the books you can download the Flash plug-in for free at www.macromedia.com.
New for Students and Parents: Interested in reading books on your school’s Accelerated Reader/Reading Counts lists? Check out our new service, ReadTheBooks.com, which offers animation and streaming video to promote books. With links to your school’s Accelerated Reader list, you can search and sort by title, author, AR points, or grade level, and then click “Check the Catalog” to see if the book you want is in our library’s collection. From there, you can put a hold on the book you want, and pick it up at your convenience.
